From the Librarian…Library schedule heats up in winter

Holiday season in Lake Lure is THE best! The leaves are changing (or have already changed), homes are decorated beautifully, plans are being made for visitors, and the spirit in the air is something to behold! We at Mountains Branch Library LOVE the holidays and hope you will stop in and visit us!

We welcomed new Library Assistant, Victoria Blackburn, at the end of September. Victoria comes to us most recently from Rutherford County Schools where she was a Tech Assistant. She has jumped right in and seems to have it figured out. We look forward to having Victoria with us for a long time. Please stop in and get to know her!

If you have not been into Mountains Branch Library lately, you need to come back. We always have so much going on! Ken leads our fantastic clogging group on Monday and Wednesdays. Gwen leads an amazing line dancing class on Thursdays. Genealogy meets once a month. A book club or two meets here once a month. Al-Anon is open and welcoming to any and all on Tuesday evenings. Please stop in or call us if you have any questions about joining any of our on-going groups. We would love to have you join us!

I hope you enjoyed our fabulous 2022 Books & Bites season! We had some amazing authors visit us this season. Thank you, Cathe Bennett, for our lineup. The work that goes on behind the scenes for a Books & Bites events sometimes seems overwhelming –  but our Friends of the Mountains Branch Library Board does a job that deserves a round of applause. Next time you see them, thank them for the hard work they put in. I can not wait to see who we have on the marquee for our 2023 season!

We are ramping back up with programs now that Victoria is here. November will bring a favorite – a cooking demonstration using the Charlie Cart. We will be making Deviled Eggs….but not your typical Deviled Eggs. Join us to see what we can come up with. November will also bring a Thanksgiving painting craft for ages 8 – 12 and a Teen Egg Drop Challenge. We can’t wait to get messy!! We know we are going to do our Second Annual Stuffed Animal Sleepover in December. Be on the lookout for advertising for this program. Last year was fun, exciting, and exhausting. I hope the stuffed animals got more sleep than we did! J As always, keep an eye on our website (www.rutherfordcountylibrary.org/events) for upcoming programs throughout the library system. You can also find information at www.facebook.com/lakelurelibrary. Flyers are also posted throughout the library itself for you to see.

Thank you to the Lake Lure Lions Club for their donation that allowed us to buy new Large Print. We have a huge selection of Large Print and now have even more.  I don’t know about you, but not having to use my reading glasses to struggle with small print is always nice. Thank you again to the Lake Lure Lions!

We receive new titles every month to add to our collection. They are located under the “New Fiction” and “New Non-Fiction” signs. If there is a title you are interested in but we don’t have it, please let us know. We may can get it from another library through our resource sharing or we may can order the title for you. We are here to help!

We thank you for all your support throughout the year! We love seeing you, talking to you, getting to know you, and helping you! We love how you always support our Book Sale! In fact, you have supported it so well that we are now in need of gently used, NEWER FICTION titles to sell. Sales from the Book Sale support Mountains Branch Library by allowing the Friends of the Library to purchase materials, supplies, pay for programming, and more.

Happy Holidays to you and yours from Mountains Branch Library and the Rutherford County Library System!
