MAHJ MAVENS DONATE AGAIN!

The 2500-year-old Chinese game of mahjongg is alive and well in Lake Lure.  The west end of Lake Lure hosts a group of ladies who meet once a week to play this game.  If you ask these ladies about playing mahjongg, you will often hear the word “obsession”!!  It’s a game that definitely gets under your skin and challenges all of your abilities; including memory, reckoning and strategy mixed with a good chunk of luck.

The Mahj Mavens group includes over 14 participants but not everyone meets every week.  Each player in a given week will contribute $1.00 to the “donation fund”.  Once the group collects $100.00 the money is given to a local non-profit.  The group has so far given to Lil’s Thrift Shop, Chimney Rock Volunteer Fire Department and the Lake Lure Fire and Rescue Department.

We are happy to announce our next donation has been to the art department of The Lake Lure Classical Academy.  Art department Chairperson, Layne Long has expressed a consistant need for art supplies for the students.  We were happy to contribute.

The Mahj Mavens encourage everyone to consider donating funds, supplies or time to enhance the art department at the Lake Lure Classic Academy.  Cultivating creative minds is an essential element in building a well-rounded education foundation for our youngsters.
