From the Librarian…Spring arrives

Having grown up in Rutherford County from the age of 9, I am used to our funky Spring weather. I remember we got snow one time in April! As much as I love snow (and I really, really do!!) I am looking forward to gorgeous weather in Lake Lure. Our people seem to get out more, seem to be a little more chipper – the Flowering Bridge looks like something out of a picture book – the mornings on the lake are beautiful and serene while the afternoons are filled with laughter and people. Consistent gorgeous weather in Lake Lure brings two things to mind for me…Books & Bites and Summer Reading at Mountains Branch Library.

The Friends of the Mountains Branch Library work very hard to schedule a great lineup of New York Times Best Selling authors to visit our area! Our little piece of paradise is so enchanting that many of these authors fall in love with Lake Lure and visit here even when they are not presenting their newest novels. Can you blame them? I can’t!

The line-up for the 2023 Books & Bites is as follows:

Wednesday, May 31st @ 5:00 pm is Marie Bostwick “Esme Cahill Fails Spectacularly”

Wednesday, June 14th @ 11:00 is Katherine Reay “A Shadow in Moscow: A Cold War Novel”

Wednesday, June 28th @ 11:00 am is Beatriz Williams “The Beach at Summerly”

Thursday, August 3rd at 5:00 pm is John Cribb “The Rail Splitter”

Thursday, August 31st at 11:00 am is Tracey Enerson Wood “The President’s Wife”

All Books & Bites events take place at Lake Lure Inn and require registration. Lunch / dinner and a visit with the author is included in the price of $30.00. You may notice that our price has increased and I’m sure you understand that prices have gone up all around. Unfortunately, we have had to make this change due to venue pricing. As this is our largest and most successful fundraising event for Mountains Branch Library, and we know this event is always popular, we suggest you reserve your spot early rather than later. You can call the library at 828-287-6392 or pop in and see us.

Summer Reading will begin in just a couple of months and I am so excited I just about can’t sit still! I can’t wait to see what Mrs. Tamara (Youth Services Librarian) has in store for us this year!! Summer Reading is a fun way to keep your child reading throughout the summer with levels to reach and prizes to be had. The best prize, though, goes to me because I love seeing the families in here getting books for everyone. Watch for information about registering for Summer Reading coming soon!

Come see us soon!
