Chimney Rock Park…Summer Vacation at Chimney Rock

School is out, and students, parents, and grandparents are looking for fun and fulfilling ways to spend time together this summer. When the days get longer and the house starts to get a little stuffy, Chimney Rock has everything you’re looking for to create summer memories that will last forever.

Summer Animal Encounters began June 1st and will continue every weekday at 2 pm until August 31st. Meet a naturalist and some of our live animal ambassadors and learn what wildlife shares our woods here in the Gorge. If you haven’t met some of our newer ambassadors like Valentine the opossum or Waffle the eastern box turtle, this is the perfect opportunity!

We have a brand-new family event coming up on July 15th: Whimsical Woods Family Adventure. We are excited to be partnering with Street Creature Puppets from Asheville for this one-of-a-kind event. Families will spend an enchanted evening in the Park creating their own lanterns from recycled materials with help from our friends at Street Creature. Then, attendees will bring the forest to life with a magical puppet parade featuring the newly-made lanterns. A catered cook-out from the Old Rock Cafe brings the whole night together. It will be a summer adventure like no other!

If you’re looking for more evening activities, check out the Playing for Our Partners series at the Old Rock Cafe. Nothing says summer like enjoying a smash burger on the deck overlooking the river and listening to live local music. Walter Finley will be playing on July 8th from 6 – 8 pm, and local favorite Mike Pauer returns August 12th to share some great tunes. A portion of proceeds from each event will go to support our non-profit partners: The Lake Lure Flowering Bridge in July and Kids in Parks in August.

Our celebration of the Year of the Trail isn’t over yet. We have six unique hiking trails open seven days a week for hikers of all skill levels. The easy-rated Great Woodland Adventure is designed with younger hikers in mind and is the perfect location for an afternoon family stroll. And the moderate Hickory Nut Falls trail can be a family affair as well with child carriers available for day rental in the Park. Plus, the cool spray of the falls is the perfect destination for a hot summer day.

Don’t forget about our new Family Annual Pass! The pass includes admission for two adults and three youth, but can be upgraded to include additional youth and adults for larger families. Find it online with our other annual passes or ask about upgrading during your next visit to the Park. See you on the trails!
