During the hot, lazy days of summer, you might be looking for opportunities to give back to your community. Lake Lure Classical Academy (LLCA) located on Island Creek Road in Lake Lure is just the place to donate your time and skills, and in doing so contribute to the future of children living in the Lake Lure area.
The school is looking for volunteers to read with children during our summer reading camp. You don’t have to be a teacher or an educator to spend a little time reading to children, or even helping them learn the process of reading. The summer reading camp ends on June 22nd, so if you enjoy seeing the excitement of reading in the eyes of children, contact us today.
Another way you can be involved in the school this summer is to help paint some classrooms, build bookshelves, take care of our gardens, and the list goes on and on. The school not only needs volunteers, but the work of local volunteers is essential to the success of the school.
Volunteering at LLCA does not have to end once summer comes to a close. Throughout the school year there are many opportunities for volunteers to be involved in educating children. The Lake Lure Lions Club volunteers each year at the school to provide eye exams. Volunteers from Fairfield Mountains Chapel host weekly math tutoring sessions and character building sessions. The Epispocal Church of the Transfiguration hosts an after school sports program for elementary students. Individual volunteers also are major contributors to our educational programs. Volunteers serve students with our athletic programs and extracurricular clubs. From book clubs and hiking clubs to music and the arts, we have dozens of opportunities for volunteers.The support of our local volunteers is needed now more than ever.
