Mountains Branch Library updates for upcoming Autumn activities

I struggle to write this column every single time it is due. I don’t know why because you all know I have a LOT to say. The only reason I can come up with is that I have SO much to say that I am afraid I am going to forget something, or I might even be a little afraid of boring you to death. I want to be witty and fun, sarcastic and serious, professional writer and diary writer. I am none of those things. What I am is in the BEST job in the whole wide world – at least for me. “They” say if you find a job you love, you never have to work a day in your life. It’s true…it’s really true. Coming to work every day is a pleasure. Getting to see you all is what makes my day!

I am sad to say that the annual Summer Reading Program is over for Summer 2023. We had a lot of great kids participate this year who read an amazing number of books. They worked hard and hopefully developed a love of reading (the small prizes for reading may have helped just a little) that will carry them through their lifetime. We had fun and entertaining programs for children and adults all summer long. I hope you were able to take advantage of at least one activity!

By the time of publishing, 2023 Books & Bites series will be over. ☹ We had fantastic authors this year (and every year!) who gave great presentations on their newest material. We thank you for supporting Mountains Branch Library by attending these fun events! The Friends of the Mountains Branch Library Board works so hard on this lineup every year. We couldn’t do it without them. Thank you so much for all your hard work!

Thank you to ALL our volunteers! Mountains Library wouldn’t be the same without you! You selflessly give of your time and talents and make such a difference. We appreciate you!

Many of you have asked about the Bookmobile and I promise it is coming…eventually. COVID really knocked the supply chain for a loop in this instance, but I think we are finally getting back on track with production. We are hoping for a delivery date in early 2024. I can’t wait to be driving around town in that machine blowing the horn the whole time!

I hope you are all keeping up with all of our programming. You can find information for our goings-on at www.rutherfordcountylibrary.org/events, www.facebook.com/RutherfordCountyLibrary, or www.facebook.com/lakelurelibrary. We also keep beautiful flyers up about all upcoming programs and events (thanks Amber, for your hard work on the advertising!) While all of our programs are fun, my favorite is “On the Menu with Maria.” Typically this cooking program is held the last Friday of the month at 1:00, but on occasion it is held at a different time, so be sure to check out the flyer. Every month I cook / make something as a demonstration and then we, of course, taste test! Soups have been a big hit and I’m sure they will be on the menu again this fall. I hope you can join us!

Remember that we have several groups at meet at Mountains Branch Library and you are welcome to participate in any, or all of them! We have Genealogy, Clogging, Quilting / Crocheting / Sewing, and Book Club. Give us a call if you would like any information on these groups.

Until next month…enjoy these last few weeks of summer!
