The Lovely Princess Gwen and I enjoy playing golf. My apologies to those who are, quite deservedly, of the opinion the game is variously, silly, slow, elitist, boring, and taking up too many of their weekend television slots. That said, after a typical round of the inane sport, Gwen and I will often find ourselves at LEGENDS restaurant at the Rumbling Bald Resort.

LEGENDS is very much a family spot with delicious burgers, large servings of nachos and any number of pizza variations, including one made with a cauliflower crust (I kid you not) which is surprisingly tasty. But here’s the problem. If you go to LEGENDS and dine in the lounge, as is the practice of The Princess and I, you will overhear many groups of increasingly loud people drinking beer and bemoaning hole-by-hole accounts of that day’s links go-round. And even worse, you will probably hear yet another re-telling of the time a local fellow named Paul Huber made two holes-in-one in the same round of golf. I wasn’t there to witness the miracle, but seven other fellows, three of whom I trust, claim the feat actually took place. Plus, I happen to know Huber is one of the luckier guys you’ll meet. During his last colonoscopy they discovered uranium.
But, even if you don’t play golf, and I envy you that, you might try LEGENDS. It’s a huge place, so you don’t have to sit in the lounge with the golf liars – I mean players – and there’s a large room filled with various games and other activities for the rugrats to enjoy. There is also a lovely outdoor terrace on which you can dine while enjoying a beautiful view overlooking Lake Lure.
As I mentioned, the restaurant is located at the Rumbling Bald Resort, and it’s big enough that even on busy nights, if there’s a wait, it isn’t very long. If you happen to run into Mr. Huber, just tell him “Yeah, yeah. Heard all about it”, and then run for your life. He’s a little radioactive.
When not eating, k.c.friese wrote for a number of television shows and authored the novel STATE OF DISARRAY, which is available via Amazon. Got a suggestion for a restaurant review? E-mail editor@mountainbreeze.online
