Coming Soon to the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge: A Storybook Christmas

The end of 2023 is fast approaching, and the volunteer elves at the Bridge are preparing for a festive holiday season! Make plans to visit us beginning November 18 and continuing until early January when the Bridge and gardens will be transformed into A Storybook Christmas.

Children and grownups alike will be delighted by the vignettes throughout the gardens depicting their favorite Christmas stories. You’ll see everything from the Grinch to Rudolph, Snoopy, the Polar Express, Frosty and many more of your favorite holiday characters and stories. You also won’t want to miss the grand lighting of the holiday lights on Wednesday, November 29. Always a festive and free event for locals and visitors alike, it will feature music provided by students from the Lake Lure Classical Academy and cider and cookies served by Bridge volunteers.

The holidays are a special time at the Bridge, and you’ll love our beautiful lights and decorations.

Education Center Update:  In September, our Board of Directors voted to move forward with the Task Force’s proposed layout and a recommendation to utilize a blend of prefabricated building shell and a general contractor to complete the construction. The Task Force is actively pursuing all necessary permits and applications for the project as well as working with our engineers on putting the final touches on the layout of the new Education Center, surrounding area and parking lot. We’ve got a great plan and cannot wait to break ground!

We gratefully acknowledge the outpouring of support and donations we’ve received for our plans to build an Education Center. Our 10th Anniversary Garden Party in June was a huge success, and all proceeds from this event will be used for the new center.

We were honored to have Bill and Ellie Miller attend the Garden Party. Because of Bill’s idea to transform an old bridge into a pedestrian walkway, thousands of people have enjoyed the LLFB in its first decade.

We were the recipients of several very generous grants in late summer, and in the fall we held a plant sale and conducted an art auction to support this project. We are very excited about the increased education and outreach opportunities the new building will provide.

As we say so long to 2023, we want to thank you for a spectacular 10th Anniversary year at the LLFB! Maybe you visited, maybe you donated, maybe you attended our June Garden Party or one of our classes – we appreciate your support of our beautiful Bridge and gardens.

Cheers to 10 Years!
