There is nothing better than summer in Lake Lure – unless it’s fall, spring, or winter. But I have to say, summer is my most favorite; mainly because of Books & Bites!! We finally have the 2024 lineup and it is amazing!! We hope you can join us at the historic Lake Lure Inn for each of these events. Your $30 donation entitles you to lunch (or dinner for the 5:00 events), a meet and greet with the author, and a time spent listening to them talk about their latest work. We are excited to let you know that we are now able to take credit / debit card payments at the library when you reserve your spot (either by phone or in person).
Thursday, May 9th at 5:00 – The Final Victory by Roger Jones. Many of you will remember when Dragon Boat Races were held in Lake Lure and this masterpiece by Jones should bring back some of those memories.
Tuesday, June 11th at 11:00 – At Loggerheads by Kristen Ness. Murder on a SC island brings together a seat turtle biologist and a local detective to unravel a mystery that might impact the race for the White House.
Tuesday, July 9th at 5:00 – Husbands and Lovers by Beatriz Williams. Two women – separated by decades and continents, and united by a mysterious family heirloom – discover second chances at love.
Thursday, August 15th at 11:00 – The Berlin Letters by Katherine Reay – An unforgettable tale of the Cold War and a CIA code breaker who risks everything to free her father from an East German prison.
Tuesday, September 17th at 11:00 – Katharine: The Wright Sister by Tracey Enerson Wood. A historical fiction novel that imagines the life of Katharine Wright and her relationship with her brothers, Wilbur and Orville Wright.
Another reason I love summer in Lake Lure is because of the Summer Reading Program that we host every year. This is a time to read for fun, to read for competition, and to read for the chance to win prizes. You may think Summer Reading Program is just for children…but it’s NOT!! Not at all! We have a program for EVERYONE! We will have performers, speakers, activities, and more! Our Summer Reading Kickoff party will be held at POPS in Forest City (153 Park Square Circle, Forest City) on June 10th 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. It is always a great time for the kids and who knows….we may even have a little surprise train ride available 😊
