From the Librarian…A Due Date for Normal?

Webster defines normal as “conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or expected.” But normal is different for everyone and in our case – for everywhere to a point. Things in Lake Lure and surrounding areas have changed drastically and dramatically, but they are still the same. The landscape may be different, housing may be different, heck, even the river is different, but our people are still the same. We are the same as we have always been: loving, compassionate, helpful, empathetic, sweet, friendly, and so much more! Some stupid hurricane can’t take that from us!

We are getting back to “normal” at Mountains Branch Library. If you came in after December 1st, you have likely seen Ginny and I wearing some amazing and fun holiday headpieces. Picking out our daily headwear is the highlight of our day and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

FEMA is still using our Community Room and has plans to be here at least until the end of January. By my estimations, around four hundred people have been in seeking help from all over Rutherford County. The FEMA workers have almost become like coworkers to us and we will miss them when they are gone, but boy will we be glad to have the Community Room back!

Programs have been a little challenging as of late due to no designated space, but we have done the best we can. We have some fun events in January and I know February will be just as good!

Taste the World with Ginny and On the Menu with Maria is BACK!!!! The dishes may not be as complicated as the programs are being done in the library itself, but uncomplicated is good, right? Ginny will be taking us to India again January 10th and I shall be attempting a “fancy breakfast” (poached eggs with hollandaise sauce) on January 31st.

Following is the list of programs we have scheduled for January. Please visit www.rutherfordcountylibrary.org/events to reserve your seat.
