Chimney Rock State Park Welcomes Summer, One Step at a Time

After exactly nine months of recovery, Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park reopened to the public on June 27. While so much has changed since Hurricane Helene, the spirit of Chimney Rock and those who care for this extraordinary place is stronger than ever. Seeing you back on the trails, taking in the views, and reconnecting with nature has been an experience our team will never forget.

Now that the Park has reopened, we’re diving into summer with a lineup of nature programming that’s fun for all ages.

Every weekday at 2 pm, meet live animal ambassadors during our Summer Animal Encounters on the Outcroppings Deck, running through mid-August. Later in the season, don’t miss guided hikes like Naturalist Niche on August 16 and the popular Nature at Night Hike on August 23. Plus, homeschoolers are invited to join us for our Fall Homeschool Day on September 24.

Bird lovers can mark their calendars for the 17th Annual Flock to the Rock on September 13, the Park’s largest birding celebration. Each year, guests can enjoy live raptor programs, beginner bird walks, and exciting migration activities for all ages.

This Park’s reopening will be phased. We are continuing to work with state and local officials as recovery efforts continue in the area. Advance reservations are required for all guests, including Annual Passholders. The only route into the Park at this time is via NC 9 through Lake Lure. Roads from Asheville, Hendersonville, and Black Mountain remain closed to non-local traffic. Guests should plan their trips with these detours and potential travel delays in mind. The elevator and all other amenities inside the Park except for the Skyline Trail, which is still being repaired, are open to guests.

The Park is currently open Friday through Monday, 8:30 am to 7:00 pm, with plans to expand to daily hours later this summer. Discover full event details and reserve your visit at chimneyrockpark.com
