Mountains Branch Library…A season of changes

Happy New Year from Mountains Branch Library!! We hope that 2025 was amazing and we pray that 2026 is even better!!

Many of you know that I don’t like change, but I know it is necessary, especially at our library. We can’t have the same old things all the time. If we did, we would have all 25-year-old books, VHS tapes, and no programs. But we don’t, we have the latest books, DVDs, tons of programs for all ages, digital books, audio books, computers for your use (and sometimes classes on how to use them), and so much more! But still, we need to change. We need to keep changing our offerings to keep up with the times. To keep up with what our patrons need. For example, if you have recently purchased a new vehicle, you may have noticed that it likely doesn’t have a CD player. How are you going to listen to your audio books with no CD player? Oh no!! Don’t fret though, we can help you with that. I promise! Come in and talk to us and see what has changed in the last five or so years so that you CAN listen to your audio book while you make that trip to Florida.

So be on the lookout for some changes at Mountains Branch Library coming soon. (NO, Ginny nor I are leaving – you will have to drag us out of here in a hearse if you want rid of us!) We plan to offer more digital and technology classes, we plan to offer more children’s programming, we plan to offer more (and different) adult programming. Just remember, we can’t do what we do without Y-O-U! If there is something you would like to see (or do) at Mountains Branch Library – don’t hesitate to talk to us. Maybe we have been thinking the same thing and just haven’t done it yet.

If you are new to Lake Lure, please come see us at Mountains Branch Library (150 Bill’s Creek Rd., Lake Lure)! We love meeting new people! In order to get a library card, we need your state issued ID and something with your local address and your name. That’s it. No money down and you can take your card home today 😊

We have volunteer opportunities at the Library if you are looking for some way to fill your time. Ages 13 and up are welcome to apply on our website (www.rutherfordcountylibrary.org/volunteer/). We have opportunities for shelving books, leading programs or classes, landscaping and lawn work, and more.

Mountains Branch Library has a very active Friends Group. We would love for you and your family to join. The Friends are library activists, promotors, and financial supports. There is a small fee to join the Friends and that money comes straight back to the library in the form of books, audiobooks, DVDs, programming, and supplies. You don’t have to join the Friends in order to support us financially. We will gladly accept your tax-deductible monetary donations at any time. It takes a village to run a library and Lake Lure has an amazing, supportive village!

Thank you all for your wedding well-wishes! I finally found the love of my life with Mark and we are so happy!

Come see us. We love you and we miss you!
