This month marks my 11th year with Rutherford County Library System. Six of those years have been spent at Mountains. Time truly does fly when you are having fun and boy am I having fun!!! The community of Lake Lure and Chimney Rock truly have my heart! I have made friends that I hope will last a lifetime! I have seen devastation and growth and the spirit of our community. This is our home and we love it here!
Mountains Branch Library would like to welcome our new Director for Rutherford County Library System, Chaundra Johnson! Chaundra comes to Rutherford County from the State Library of Utah where she was the State Librarian (the Librarian for librarians) and before that she wore MANY hats in Baton Rouge, LA. Chaundra brings a wealth of knowledge to Rutherford County Library System and we can’t wait to utilize her know-how!
The 2026 Books & Bites Summer Series is in full swing! I’m sure you enjoyed Ellery Adams and Rose Senhi in April and May! Thank you so much for your support to this major fundraiser for Mountains Branch Library. We could not run this library without your financial support! Speaking of financial support, if you have never joined the Friends of the Mountains Branch Library, I suggest you do. Your membership fee supports the library and you get to be a part of a fantastic, supportive community who love this library as much as you! If you don’t feel like joining the Friends, we are always open to donations 😊
Summer Reading Program 2026 is on FIRE!! We worked the SRP Kickoff Party June 8th and had almost 300 people in attendance. The kids played games, met staff from all the libraries in town, received prizes, shook hands with a dinosaur, got neat balloon animals from Marcie the Balloon Fairy, and played in the Splash Pad. Every Tuesday at 2:00 pm we will have a kids program related to the Summer Reading Program. Some programs require registration and some do not. Check out our website for more information (www.rutherfordcountylibrary.org). While the programs are SO much fun, the really important part of Summer Reading is the actual reading. If you haven’t already, register for Summer Reading Program, keep track of minutes read, earn prizes, and don’t let that summer slack affect you! We have programs for everyone – children to adults!
We have some amazing programs coming up at Mountains Branch Library and I think you will want to attend them all! We are working on new programs for August and September right now. We are thinking it is time for the 2nd Annual Adult Spelling Bee (you may want to start studying) and another themed dinner (wonder what this theme will be???).
