Lake Lure Library…The hub of our community

What does that new James Patterson book and The Mountain Breeze have in common? They both leave Mountains Branch Library almost as soon as they arrive. We are so proud to partner with The Breeze to get this paper into the hands of our residents and visitors. We love reading every issue to find out what is going on in our community! Thank you to the Baughman’s for all their hard work!

Mountains Branch Library strives every day to be the hub of our community, to be open and accessible for everyone, to have the materials that you want and need, and interesting and fun programs. If there is ever something that you would like to see at the library, please don’t hesitate to talk to us about it. We are always looking for ideas that our patrons are interested in. As a member of the NC Cardinal Consortium, we are able to get items from all over North Carolina sent here to you. As an added benefit, your Rutherford County Library System library card will work at any Cardinal associated library in NC.

December sure brought us some crazy weather! Freezing cold one week to almost warm the next. While we may not know how to dress each day for the weather, it is always a constant, pleasant atmosphere inside Mountains Library. Cold? Great day for a book! Rainy? Great day for a DVD! Snowy? Great day for naps and fiction! You may still be cold, rained on, and snowed in, but at least you will have a book!

It won’t be long until our 2023 Books & Bites schedule is finalized. We look forward to this every year! Books & Bites is our biggest fundraiser. Without the funds from this program, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do. Thank you for your support each and every year. I love seeing everyone at the event and having a chance to talk to you outside the library. I have made many new friends and acquaintances due to Books & Bites and I hope you have, too!

The Bookmobile is still in production. We had hoped that it would be on the road by the end of 2022, but with supply chain issues, it is just not going to happen. According to the manufacturer, we do not have a firm date for delivery. However, this might be (fairly) good news as we are still fundraising for the outfitting of the bus. We will need computer equipment, chairs, tables, televisions, materials for checkouts, office supplies, and more. If you would like to donate, please write a check to “Rutherford County Library Society” and drop it by Mountains Branch Library. The Library Society is a non-profit, so your donation could be tax deductible (see your tax professional for clarification).

We still have weekly, monthly, and daily programs that go on at Mountains Library. Follow us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/lakelurelibrary or www.facebook.com/rutherfordcountylibrary) or at www.rutherfordcountylibrary.org to keep up with all our activities, hours, new items, and programs.

We hope to see you soon!
