Is there anything better than summertime in Lake Lure? I think not! The lake is open, the sun is shining, the zip lines are open, the restaurants are serving up yummy food, Lake Lure Inn and Spa is booked with visitors and weddings, and Mountains Branch Library has something going on nearly every day for all ages.
I can’t talk about summer in Lake Lure without talking about Summer Reading Program. We had a huge kickoff party at POPS in Forest City that about 250 people attended. Everyone visited different library stations, played games, won prizes, watched the amazing bubble show, played in the splash pad, and of course, registered for Summer Reading!
The Summer Reading Program is a fun way to keep children reading over the summer. Hours read are logged and small prizes are given out for every 100 minutes read. Once their Reading Log is full, they turn it in and are entered for a chance to win one of the three grand prizes.
Not only is Summer Reading a way to keep children reading, it is also a way to keep them entertained. We have programs every Friday at 3:00 through July 28th at Mountains Branch Library. Some of these programs are interactive programs and some are from visiting entertainers. A fun time is always had by everyone attending.

Please don’t be sad thinking that Summer Reading Program is all about the kids! It’s not!!! We have programs and activities for Teens and Adults as well (we just don’t get prizes for every 100 minutes read 😊). We have engineering challenges for teens, for example, and TED talks for adults and several technology classes for adults as well.
Please visit our website, www.rutherfordcountylibrary.org/events to see all upcoming programs at Mountains Branch Library, County Library, and Haynes Branch Library. I promise you, if you are looking for something to do, you will find it here!
Books & Bites has been a great success so far this year! We love every single author that comes to visit and we love every single patron that participates in this annual author series. I know many of you look forward to seeing the schedule all year and plan your summer around how many Books & Bites you can attend. We now offer the ability to pay for B&B over the phone using your credit or debit card. Just give us a call at the library, 828-287-6392, and we can take your information over the phone. Thank you to the Friends of the Mountains Branch Library for getting this going for us!

It seems like our Bookmobile will never get here, but I promise it really will. Not only are the health effects of COVID long term, but the supply chain as well. We really are on the schedule for our truck to be built soon! We are still actively raising money to be used to fill the bookmobile with the latest and greatest materials and supplies. If you would like to donate, please contact Maria at 828-287-6417 or maria.davis@rutherfordcountync.gov and I can help you. There is also a “donate now” button on our website if you would prefer to donate electronically.
Mountains Branch Library and Friends of the Mountains Branch Library would like to extend our sympathy to the family of Tracy Lanham who passed away recently. Tracy was an amazing person, amazing volunteer and board member, a wonderful friend to all, and just all around the kind of person we are all better for knowing. Please keep her family in your thoughts.
Thank you to the Mountain Breeze for all you do for our community!
