Members of the Polk County Strong team will be hosting a fundraiser for the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Helene hitting the area. The fundraiser will be held close to the exact one year date of the disaster on Sept. 27 at Polk County Middle School from 10 am to 9 p.m.
This fundraiser is an opportunity to help people still struggling even a year later.
All proceeds from this fundraiser will go to the Polk County Baptist Association for their Hurricane Helene Relief Fund.
Fundraising goal
Organizers state the goal for this fundraiser is to support those who are still in need following Hurricane Helene in Polk County and the surrounding counties. These funds will be used to help people still in need of home and property repairs; and replacement of appliances; furniture; and other home or personal items.
Aid distribution
People who are in need, in Polk County and surrounding counties impacted by Helene, will fill out a needs application that will be reviewed and, if approved, applicants will receive assistance with bills, household and personal items, home repairs and lost property.
Event information
Several events have been organized and will take place at the fundraiser.
Those include:
- Live bands
- A car show
- A jeep and motorcycle poker run
- Bingo
- Silent auction
- Fashion show including local boutiques
- Bouncy houses
- Basketball tournament
- 50/50 raffle
- BBQ lunch
- Food trucks
- Vendors
Several local county residents have agreed to speak during the event to share their stories of what they lost during these natural disasters and how the community came together to help them.
Fundraising
Businesses and organizations have several ways to support the fundraiser including vendor spots, banners, fashion show slots, car show entries and jeep and poker run entries.
Personal donations are also welcome.
