The American Cancer Society is excited to announce that Relay For Life is coming to Lake Lure Classical Academy on May 9, beginning at 9:00 a.m. This special community event will bring together students, families, educators, and neighbors to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones, and take action to help end cancer as we know it.
Relay For Life is more than a walk—it is a powerful celebration of hope, strength, and resilience. Teams take turns walking while participating in activities that recognize survivors and caregivers and honor those lost to cancer. Funds raised support the American Cancer Society’s mission, including life-saving cancer research, free lodging for patients through Hope Lodge, transportation to treatment, prevention education, and early detection programs.
Hosting Relay For Life at Lake Lure Classical Academy (LLCA) is especially meaningful. LLCA is known for its strong commitment to character development, service, and community involvement. Rooted in classical education and civic responsibility, the school encourages students to engage thoughtfully with the world around them and to serve others with purpose. Bringing Relay For Life to campus reflects these values and provides students and families a hands-on opportunity to support a cause that impacts so many lives.
The event is open to the entire community, and there are many ways to participate:
- Form a team with friends, family, classmates, or coworkers
- Walk in honor or memory of someone affected by cancer
- Volunteer on event day
- Make a donation to support a team or participant
Relay For Life is designed for all ages and abilities, and every action—big or small—helps make a difference when a community comes together.
